MAY
2006
Two men exhibition with the sculpturer Christopher Cairns. The textures
and dark surfaces of Cairns' sculpures are very close to the world of
expression where Bujalance evolves.
This time Bujalance's
work shows an aspect where the nature of the matter are more relevant
than ever. The contrast among clothes, asphalt and collage add consistency
to the paintings and take them closer to the sculturer's world.

NOVEMBER
2005
Weekend event showing the last paintings made in the States. In this serie
color becomes more important. Red or blue backgrounds fight with the rough
textures of asfalt. This serie continues with the line started in Norway
druing the summer.
Once the presentation
is over some of the pieces will remain in Bucks Gallery as part of a group
exhibition that the gallery holds during November 2005.

OCTOBER

Two
men show. Luis Bujalance shares the space of gallery Bi-z with one of
the most important artists in Norway: Björn Carlsen. The contrast
of the two different styles added interest to the exhibition.
The first part
of the serie "Dualidades" of Bujalance (that would be completed
at the USA) and the pastels of Carlsten inspirated in his travels to Australia
gave to different visions of reality full of contrasts, light and textures.

AUGUST
2004
Exhibiton
at Joan Perkes' gallery. The show was focussed on gallerists and professionals
from the art scene. Bucks County is known for the great number of artists,
of all kinds, that have enlarged the cultural life at Pennsylvania for
decades. Some of them honoured us by coming to the opening.
After this first contact, there were other exhibitions at New Town Fine
Art Gallery (September, October, November 2004) as well as a participation
with the group of artists "New Eclectics" at West Chester University
(August 2004).

SOME
THOUGHTS ABOUT MY PAINTINGS
STATEMENT
FOR "CONNECTIONS":
In
this exhibition I want to introduce a series of work that, although apparently
different, is a continuation of my previous work. In this series I give
more relevance to photography and I try to use all possible resources
(in subjects and presentation) to deepen the idea of “oneness”.
After several series of paintings (where matter and its reactions were
deliberately respected and shown without artifice) I started a transition
incorporating photography as a new element opposing the roughness of matter.
In this last series, through the treatment of digital photography, I try
to depict the essence of nature. I understand the concept of essence as
the characteristic that is common to every individual and, therefore,
constitutes the elemental feature from which all other structures are
compounded.
The pattern of nature that I found through the creative development of
the previous series becomes the subject of the new one. Branches, veins,
rivers, nerves... They all are elements connecting every part of the net
that weaves a subtle reality that is never the same when we try to capture
it with our senses. Opposite to these organic shapes there is the mind,
exploring, analyzing and judging. The straight line as a mind’s
invention acts as a border and division between points of view, between
the superficial look and the inner being.
On the other hand in some of the pieces the canvas is cut into stripes
and woven to emphasize the idea of a reality where everything is connected
like in a huge net of threads, as explained 600 years BC by the philosophy
of “Tantra Yoga” (the word Tantra means “woven”
in Sanskrit). "
PREVIOUS
STATEMENT:
"My purpose is to paint using the nature rather
than reproduce it. I don't use much color in order not to interfere with
the colors of the materials that I use on my paintings. Asphalt is the
new material I am working with, but it is not my first experiment. Before
I use to work with cement, plaster or adding found used things or paper.
I like all these ingredients to be themselves as they are out of the paintings.
I don't use them to recreate reality but to create more reality where
things are ordered in a different way that can be suggestive for me and
make them form groups that carry a meaning. The meanings are not always
the same for everyone and that make the whole thing more interesting.
Sometimes I also write on my paintings. What I write is not to be read
as a statement. Words can be ambiguous and I like ambiguity. Many meanings
are always more interesting than just one. I started using asphalt when
I walked on the "Camino de Santiago" a few years ago. I would
look at the patches on the roads and make sketches from them. I have discovered
a great versatility in this material that gives texture to my work. That
texture in opposition to the white paint make the stains move in a direction
or leave pass through over it. Obstacles and easy ways are found by these
stains, like the water of rain heading for a river or the sea. The tendency
of water is to follow the easiest way, and that's natural, but the tendency
in life is not always just to follow the easiest way... we have to find
the balance between nature and ego.
As simple as that is the interpretation of my paintings for me, but is
not the only one and I expect people to find their own, according to themselves."
